EMD GP30 - Wikipedia
The EMD GP30 is a 2,250 hp (1,680 kW) four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division of La Grange, Illinois between July 1961 and November 1963. [2] A total of 948 units were built for railroads in the United States and Canada (2 only), including 40 cabless B units for the Union Pacific Railroad .

History — Save the Chessie
It was later changed to #4260 after the B&O and Chesapeake & Oho merger, which created the famous “Chessie” brand. The Chessie System rebuilt its GP30 units into GP30Ms, adding newer components, new traction motors and reducing their power to 2000 hp.

B&O Bursting with Pride - The Diesel Shop
B&O's fortunes began to improve slightly when the Chesapeake & Ohio gained 90% control in 1962. That same year brand new GP30s began arriving from builder EMD. The 2250-hp road switchers were unlike any other locomotive on the B&O.

Baltimore & Ohio GP30 #6974... - trainweb.org
The GP30's are unique amongst General Motors designed locomotives in that they have a noticeable buldge above the numberboards. This hump gives the GP30 a very stocky appearance. They are a favorite amongst railroad modelers. My #6974 is a Life-Like Proto 2000 model that came decorated as B&O #6950.

B&O GP-30, Brand New at EMD in 1962 - Trainorders.com
This new GP-30, headed for the B&O, caught my eye. Fresh out of the shop, it doesn't even have its road number yet applied. Amazingly, 47 years later, CSX is still using a few of these engines as road slugs.
