Rim shots are very controllable, yet ghost notes still cut through. Just a very nicely balanced, easy-to-play snare drum. Hmmm..I had one in 5,5" x 14" size.

When Nick Jones at Noble and Cooley told me they cut down a very special walnut tree with very highly figured wood , I told him I wanted a snare . 6” x 14” and 8 lugs . The pictured snare is #4 from the initial batch of 22 snares they got from that tree .

That number of 190-220 Hz refers to the fundamental tone of the drum which is the product of batter head tension, snare side tension, and drum shell depth, sometimes wood density/hardness etc. I would first make sure the snare side head is tight enough.

I just got my hands on a 13x3.5 Mapex aluminum snare drum that comes in 6lb 8 3/8oz (2959g) and to be honest, I thought it would be lighter. Aug 14, 2005 · 1) tension everything evenly. 2) tension it so it rings, but leave it loose enough to allow the drum to breathe. "Digging grooves into snare beds" is cause for SNARE DRUM ASPHYXIATION, and should be punishable by law. <_<. As for what I use, I use whatever the drum came with, so (right now) the plastic straps.

Jul 12, 2008 · I have two 14x7 snare drums - deeper, more body. One is a single ply, which is great for brushes, and the other is around 8 plys. Still nice. They project a lot less than more shallow snare drums, so I suspect the characteristics of the 14x8 is going to be more pronounced in the same direction. Aug 11, 2009.
